Tsavo East National Park
Bushy grasslands and open plains alternate with semi-arid acacia scrub and woodlands in this Park which is renowned for some of the largest elephant and buffalo herds in Kenya. Together with the arid environment and red dust these create spectacular photo opportunities. Tsavo East is recognised as one of the last remaining of wilderness and biodiversity strongholds on Earth. Natural attractions include the Galana River and Lugard’s Falls, the Yatta Plateau – which is the remnants of a massive lava flow and Mudanda Rock – the natural vantage point which overlooks a much visited and photographed drinking hole. The south of the park is the busier but it is still remarkably quiet while north of Galana is a true wilderness where private operators offer camel safaris.
Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated at the foot of the Taita Hills, bordering Tsavo West National Park, Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It features beautiful wild scenery, luxury lodges, unique flora, abundant fauna and fascinating culture. Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to soak up the magnificent landscape featuring endless grass plains, woodland habitats and panoramic views of the picturesque Taita Hills. The sanctuary offers visitors the fantastic selection of exciting wilderness activities such as wild and secluded eco-safaris, day trips to local authentic villages, and interesting guided nature walks. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including: African elephant, leopard, lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck, cape buffalo as well as over 300 species of birds.
Day 1
Day Itinerary
Met at the hotel in the morning. After a short safari briefing you will depart driving along the main highway towards Nairobi, following the route of the railway line built by the British, late in the nineteenth century. The road passes through the warehouses and workshops on the outskirts of Mombasa, climbing steadily and soon the vast plains of Tsavo become visible in the distance, with the rolling Taita Hills on the horizon. Enter Tsavo East National Park (12,000 sq kms) at Bachuma Gate. Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya and is split into East and West by the highway. You will have a game drive en route to your lodge. Arrive for lunch. After lunch and perhaps a short siesta depart on another game drive in the park returning to the lodge as the sun set.
Overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge on a full board basis.
Ashnil Aruba Lodge lies in the heart of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Its location is superb, just a couple of hours from the coast of Mombasa, 5 hours leisurely drive from Nairobi and is located on the banks of Aruba Dam which was built in 1952 as a sport fishing recreational point in the park.
