Nairobi
Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place and although it has developed a reputation which keeps tourist visits brief there are some fascinating attractions: its café culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably just 20 minutes from the city centre wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve.
Amboseli National Park
The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the snow cap of Mount Kilimanjaro, open plains, acacia woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. Renowned for its excellent Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah viewing and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya most popular parks. The birding is excellent especially near the lakes and swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Other attraction of the park includes opportunities to meet the Maasai people and also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West offers a spectacular and extremely varied natural landscape, including volcanic cones, rocky outcrops and lava flows, mountains, stream forests, lakes or wooded meadows. Among the main attractions are Mzima Springs (the main source of the Tsavo River), Chaimu Crater and Roaring Rocks, two extraordinary views.
Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated at the foot of the Taita Hills, bordering Tsavo West National Park, Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. It features beautiful wild scenery, luxury lodges, unique flora, abundant fauna and fascinating culture. Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to soak up the magnificent landscape featuring endless grass plains, woodland habitats and panoramic views of the picturesque Taita Hills. The sanctuary offers visitors the fantastic selection of exciting wilderness activities such as wild and secluded eco-safaris, day trips to local authentic villages, and interesting guided nature walks. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife including: African elephant, leopard, lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck, cape buffalo as well as over 300 species of birds.
Diani Beach
Famous for its wonderful Palm Trees and white sandy beaches, Diani Beach is a major beach resort on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It is located 30 kilometres south of Mombasa, in the nearby Kwale County. The area’s wonderfully warm waters and exquisite coral reefs provide an ideal environment for an array of exhilarating water-based activities including snorkelling, scuba diving and boat safaris where you can witness the richly diverse marine life for which the southern coast of Kenya is known. You’re likely to see turtles, mantas, barracuda and, if you are lucky, even the elusive and exceptionally large whale shark. Don’t miss: the Colobus Conservation which provides a sanctuary for these fascinating endangered primates; the Shimba Hills National Reserve which offers an exceptional and unforgettable safari experience; and the nearby Kisite Marine National Park close to the Tanzanian border.
